High Security Strike plate

Most deadbolts when installed on new homes, the builders will use only the half inch screws to install the thin brass strike plate into the frame, because it’s quicker. Which causes a weak point in a door being kicked in. Especially if there is a joint in the wood frame near where the strike is.

With a high security strike plate, a 1/8th inch steel strike plate is installed with 3 inch wood screws into the wood stud behind the door frame. Newer locks come with these security strikes or can be purchased on their own from most hardware stores.

Installation usually requires chiseling out the frame to fit the larger strike and securing it correctly into the stud.
